Today’s team:

O.Davies;
A.Davies,Wright,Tancock,Barrow;
Evans,Richards;
Traylor,Reffell,McLaggon;
Prosser;

Subs:
Jenkins for Prosser after about 59 minutes
Williams for Richards after about 66 minutes
Jones
Watkins
Garner

Ex-Martyrs in the Cinderford lineup were Jaye Bowen, Cameron Clarke, and Shane Parry and James Bloom as full backs. Giles Cutlan was taking part in the warm-up bot was not in the squad.

With Curtis McDonald suspended Jarrad Wright moved into defence, with Eliot Richards coming in to midfield.

After a couple of minutes what was to be a rare Cinderford corner was headed away by Adam Davies to Keyon Reffell He sent a ball down the left to Ian Traylor who squared it across the area but it was claimed by Clarke in the Cinderford goal.

Looking well on top early on, we took a deserved lead after about 8 minutes when Adam Davies played the ball down the right to Keyon Reffell. He picked out a cross to find Ian Traylor (one of the smallest men on the pitch) who glanced a header inside the far post.

About 5 minutes after the goal a long cross from Adam Davies found Ryan Prosser at the far post but he couldn’t keep the header down and it went over the bar.

After about 18 minutes, Kayne McLaggon got to a loose ball on the left of the area and his left-foot shot to the near post was blocked by Clarke.

We put in a real spell of pressure with around 23 minutes gone, with Clarke making a great block to a Ryan Prosser shot for the Cinderford defence to then somehow keep the ball out.

But another goal was on the cards, and it came a couple of minutes later after Kayne McLaggon and Scott Barrow combined down the left for the latter to fire the ball across the area for Ian Traylor to put it into the net from beyond the far post.

After about 26 minutes Eliot Richards found Kayne McLaggon who fought off some pressure by defenders to get in a shot but put it wide.

Then with about 29 minutes gone Kayne McLaggon played in Ian Traylor for a shot on the right of the area but it was deflected wide of the far post.

We’d been in complete control of the game in the first half, with Cinderford, whenever they did gain possession wasting it with some poor balls forward.

Early in the second half Cinderford took off Jaye Bowen who had been largely ineffective, and just before the hour mark Corey Jenkins came on for Ryan Prosser, Kayne McLaggon moving into the middle.

Cinderford then had their best spell of the game, although without troubling Oliver Davies who, as in the first half, generally continued to be a spectator, with the few shots by Cinderford well off target.

Ian Traylor ought to have had his hat-trick after combining with Kayne McLaggon to get in a shot from 12 yards, but he put it wide of the post.

Gavin Williams replaced Eliot Richards with about 66 minutes gone, but we were rather lacklustre compared to the first half, not quite putting our game together in attack, although Kayne McLaggon was working hard.

Oliver Davies had his first save to make after about 86 minutes, getting down to push away a shot, the clearance being completed by Scott Tancock. Our nearest to another goal came a couple of minutes later when some sustained pressure ended with Scott Barrow cutting in from the left to fire in a right-foot shot which was probably going in (although Clarke may have got to it) until Traylor got his head to it to divert the ball over the bar.

The nearest Cinderford came to a goal was in added time when Adam Davies sent a cross-field ball straight to a Cinderford player, resulting in a long range shot coming back off the bar.

Well, three wins and a draw from the run of 5 home games, with Redditch to come. It must be said that all 3 of these wins were pretty easy, and today’s scoreline flattered Cinderford. A disappointing second half when we seemed to settle for just making sure of the 2-0 – although we did have a few chances to add to it. Still, I wouldn’t complain if every game ended in a disappointing 2-0 win.

Man of the match for me was between Ian Traylor and Ashley Evans, who seemed to be everywhere. Keyon Reffell was heavily involved in our dominance in the first half, but less visible in the second. Gavin Williams couldn’t seem to get into the game when he came on, but did get booked for a challenge.

Great to see an attendance of over 700, let’s hope as many come again next Monday.
