Full time 1-1. An evenly matched and tough game with few chances. A fair result!

Tonight’s team:

Garner;
Tancock,Baggridge,McDonald,Barrow;
Wright;
Traylor,Richards,Reffell,McLaggon;
Prosser;

Subs:
Jenkins for Prosser after about 82 minutes
Watkins
Williams
Jones
O.Davies

The only change from Saturday’s game was Rhys Baggridge in for Gethin Jones who dropped to the bench.

We had a penalty shout after about 5 minutes after Kayne McLaggon was chopped down in midfield. The free kick was sent high into the area where Ryan Prosser went down, but nothing was given. But a minute later we took the lead with a well-worked goal, Keyon Reffell sent the ball across from the right for Ryan Prosser to turn it past the keeper.

Leamington had looked poor going forward, and in turn we’d begun to get a little sloppy with some poor balls forward.

After about 20 minutes we were nearly caught out in defence, but Leamington succeeded in messing up the opening. However, a minute later they equalised after a player ran free down the left and put over a good cross for the no. 4, Darren Pond to have an easy task of heading into the net.

There was not much else to record, with 1-1 at half time being a fair scoreline. Leamington had got off to a poor start, and after they equalised we didn’t really create anything.

Leamington had their best spell early in the second half, and we could hardly get hold of the ball, but weathered it without the visitors looking like scoring. After about 59 minutes they broke forward, with the attacker taking on Rhys Baggridge but he finished with a shot well over the bar.

With about 63 minutes gone we eventually got in a shot at goal after Keyon Reffell took the ball into the area on the right. It fell for Ryan Prosser who had a shot deflected just wide of the post. About 5 minutes after that Kayne McLaggon got the ball on the left and cut inside across the edge of the area, but when he got a shot in it lacked power and was easily saved by the keeper near the post.

Corey Jenkins came on for Ryan Prosser after about 82 minutes, with Kayne McLaggon moving into the middle.

Otherwise, again there wasn’t a great deal to describe in the second half, and overall a draw was a fair result – as with the home game against Slough in the league. But unlike with Slough this was a rather lacklustre game, with not so much the two sides cancelling each other out as neither of them appearing to be on top of their game.

I’d just about select Keyon Reffell as man of the match for supplying a bit of flair now and again. Eliot Richards did quite well in midfield as did Curtis McDonald in defence. But we were unable to really test the Leamington defence, in the second half especially, finding it difficult to bring the wide men into the game. On the other hand, Glyn Garner had little to do after the break apart from field long balls and back passes, and I can only remember Leamington having two shots – the one over the bar as described, and one from the left back that was closer to the corner flag than the goal.

But as with Slough, not a bad result against the league leaders.
