Just what happens to our team in the second half,we just sit back and don't play with any momentum.

Today’s team:

Davies;
Watkins,Jones,Wright,Barrow;
Evans;
Traylor,Yorwerth,Reffell,Richards;
McLaggon;

Subs:
Williams for Reffell after about 71 minutes
Jenkins for Richards at the same time
Tancock
Hutson
Garner

As with the match against Cinderford in the previous round Oliver Davies came into the side in place of Glyn Garner. Scott Barrow replaced Scott Tancock as Ryan Prosser had to miss out due to injury and Curtis McDonald due to a one-match suspension.

We were a bit lucky not to go behind after about 8 minutes when a Slough corner wasn’t cleared, leading to Ashley Evans having to clear a shot off the line. The ball reached Slough’s Lee Togwell and he smashed a shot against the post before it then reached another Slough player on the left who put a cross-shot over the bar.

After about 12 minutes Kayne McLaggon was played in to run through to the edge of the Slough area before being crowded out at the expense of a corner on the left. When Ian Traylor put the kick across it was met by Josh Yorwerth with a downward header which went straight into the net.

With about 20 minutes gone, some neat play started by Yorwerth’s persistence saw Keyon Reffell put the ball out to Traylor on the right of the area. He stepped inside and sent in a good left-foot shot which the keeper dived to push away. Slough then broke to the other end and the big no. 9, Elijah Adebayo beat the offside to fire a shot just over the bar.

Just before the half hour mark Jarrad Wright went on a long run down the right wing and pulled the ball back into the middle for Ian Traylor to put a left-foot shot over the bar. About 3 minutes later Slough again ought to have scored when a ball in from the left found Lewis Putman, but from 10 yards he put his shot off target.

A couple of minutes before the break we increased the lead with a fine bit of play following a Slough corner with a shot being blocked. The ball came to Eliot Richards outside the area and he set Keyon Reffell free to run on and give a good ball to Kayne McLaggon who hit a great 20-yard shot over the keeper.

The scoreline at half time maybe flattered us on the balance of play, with Slough having not made the most of their openings due to not getting their shots on target.

A minute after the break we were nearly caught out with a ball in from the left which an attacker turned past the far post. At the other end, after about 55 minutes, an Ian Traylor shot from the right of the area was deflected just wide.

It was with an hour gone that Slough at last managed to get a shot on target, with Oliver Davies making a fairly comfortable save.

We then began to be put under some increasing pressure, and Slough pulled a goal back after about 70 minutes when a deep cross from the left was met by no. 16 Charlie Moone in front of goal with a header underneath Davies.

About a minute after the goal we made a double substitution, Gavin Williams replacing Keyon Reffell and Corey Jenkins on for Eliot Richards.

After about 76 minutes the equaliser came from a free kick just outside the area slightly to the right. Slough’s no. 7 James Dobson hitting it left-footed past the end of the wall and inside the far post.

We did try and push forward for a winner, but with about 88 minutes gone Ashley Evans was the victim of a bad tackle by Dobson and was shown a red card for retaliation with Dobson seeing just a yellow. When the free kick came long into the Slough area the ball fell for Gethin Jones 5 yards out but he was able to make proper contact with it and the keeper saved it. We did press forward in the remaining time, but couldn’t manage to force a goal.

Well, overall you could probably say it was a fair result, but it’s always disappointing not to win when you’re 2-0 in front. Thank goodness it wasn’t a league match, but we now have a replay next Tuesday night with the Stratford home game having to be rearranged again.

I thought Ashley Evans was man of the match, with his late sending-off not really affecting the result, but we certainly played better in the first half, with chances to get a third goal few and far between after the break. Josh Yorwerth had a good first half but was less prominent in the second, and my own opinion is we also didn’t look as good after the substitutions.

Great photos again Pete,

It is amazing to see the shot of Josh Yorwerth just standing up at that angle.

Bet he is good at limbo dancing too.
