Chesham Match Preview

I'm not sure if it's going to appear on the club website in time, so here it is:

The Martyrs make the journey to the Chiltern Hills for a sixth Saturday in a row spent away from home.

Although undoubtedly starting with more of a full strength team than against Cinderford Town in the League Cup on Tuesday night it’s still likely that several players will be missing from the Merthyr squad.

Merthyr’s last three matches on the road have all produced draws, and the same again would not be a bad return against a side with four wins from their six home matches played, and who currently lie in sixth place in the league table although only two points better off than the Martyrs. So a win for Merthyr would see them overtake the Generals with a rise of at least three places, while defeat could potentially see quite a slide down the league table with only five points separating fifth from eighteenth place.

Merthyr’s last visit to The Meadow was in the penultimate game of last season when they came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal by Keyon Reffell.

Leading scorer for Chesham is Dave Pearce with seven goals, while veteran player-coach Barry Hayles has three goals from just five appearances. Another veteran in the Chesham side is 39-year-old former Cardiff City and Birmingham defender Darren Purse who joined the club in the summer from Hayes & Yeading.
