Half time 1-1. A very bad tempered game with a number of bookings.

1-1 full time. Probably a fair result in poor conditions.

Jarrad Wright was our scorer.
A poor game played out between two poor teams with a poor ref as well.
A draw probably a fair result.
A win would have taken us up to 12th. As it is, we move up one place to 16th.

Tonight's team:

Garner:
Davies,Jones,Baggridge,Bloom;
Traylor,Wright,Evans,Jenkins;
McLaggon,.Reffell;

Subs:
Prosser for Traylor after about 55 minutes
Hugh for Bloom after about 65 minutes
Brown for McLaggon after about 78 minutes
Tancock
Bowen

No changes to the usual first choice lineup, with Scott Tancock on the bench in place of the departed Chad Bond and the injured Elliot Scotcher.

It was a fairly uneventful opening, with Frome looking to be very quick to challenge for the ball as we were unable to get our game together.

The way things had been going it was no real surprise when Frome took the lead after about 13 minutes. They pressed down the left, and a cross came in towards the far post where the no. 11 was more or less unchallenged to head the ball over Glyn Garner from 6 yards.

The half continued with us looking out of sorts, with passes going astray and poor balls forward. Luckily Frome rather sat back after their goal and there was not much of note apart from bookings for one of their players and Ashley Evans - and surprisingly no booking for their abrasive no. 9 (Mitchell Page) despite him being spoken to three times by the referee.

So it was very much against the balance of play in the half when we pulled a goal back about a minute before the break. A free kick from the middle of the field was sent to the far side of the penalty area where Jarrad Wright looped a header over the keeper.

It was to be hoped we would have sorted ourselves out for the second half, but things carried on the same as before. Ian Traylor could have had few complaints at being replaced by Ryan Prosser after about 55 minutes. Initially the substitution meant Kayne McLaggon playing out wide, but he later swapped over with Keyon Reffell.

Frome continued to show very little going forward, with Glyn Garner having little to do, but with us unable to make any headway in attack.

Chris Hugh replaced James Bloom, perhaps to give us a bit more going forward, but he made little difference.

After about 69 minutes the nearest we came to a second goal was a header just off target by Jarrad Wright following a free kick.

Our single other sight of goal came when Kayne McLaggon fired the ball across from the left, but when Corey Jenkins tried to lay the ball off we couldn't take advantage.

McLaggon was replaced by Jon Brown for the last 12 minutes or so, but towards the end Frome won several corners, with the pressure relieved by a couple of breaks which led to nothing, and in the last few minutes they won several more, with Glyn Garner having to palm a header past the post from one of them.

So, not the best advertisement for Southern League football, with neither side seemingly willing or able to get the ball down and play. Whether it was due to the conditions I don't know, but it was difficult to believe this was the same Merthyr side that had done so well against Poole and produced some good results recently. I've seldom been so glad to hear the final whistle, as the way things were going late on there was only going to be one winner and it wasn't us.

Difficult to choose a man of the match for the wrong reasons, but I'll say Adam Davies for making fewer mistakes than anybody else.

Another poor performance at home against opposition in the relegation zone.
The tactics tonight were shocking,the long ball over the top was getting us nowhere.
The result every time was a header back up field or more often than not,an offside flag,and to rub salt in the wound,we played the same witless ploy in the second half.
No excuses tonight,we were bloody awful,but then again so were the useless officials, who lost the game bigtime. Mad

We do not seem to have the quality in midfield . Does anyone know how much longer Gavin and Mathew are going to be out. if they are not going to be ready for the rest of the season perhaps we should get someone in . The saving in wages with chard and ceri now departed can be used.

We're usually told only the 16 players in the squad for a match receive any wages so it doesn't really make any difference how many players are with the club altogether.

That's not to say I don't also think we could do with bringing in another midfield player!
