Merthyr Town FC Heritage Day

Post  Harry Swift on Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:20 pm

The Candac Suite will host the first MTFC Heritage Day on Saturday 18th June between 2pm and 6pm.

Philip Sweet will make a presentation at 3.00pm on previous Team Managers at Penydarren Park.

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me already with regard to the event, for example the Landlord of the Glantaff Inn who very kindly donated some excellent photographs of Trevor Reynolds in his prime.

The club's brand new Heritage Display Board are arriving today ahead of tomorrow's first Heritage event at the CANDAC. Just a reminder that you are welcome to bring along old photos, press cuttings, programmes etc which will be on display alongside the Western League First Division winners trophy and the permanent memento of the championship winning season.

A big thank you to everyone who turned up today at the Candac Suite for the MTFC Heritage Day.

I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the panels and the items exhibited.

The mobile exhibition was well received and will now be available to tour the borough to educate on the rich history of football at Penydarren Park.

It was great to meet so many supporters with memories of the teams that have represented Merthyr over the decades. Thanks to everyone who handed over items of memorabilia for scanning for the digital archive which is next on the agenda for us.

There were some great pieces delivered today; from a 1946 Bristol Rovers FA Cup programme to a remarkable Edwardian team photograph at Penydarren Park (provided by Scamp) via a 1959 Merthyr League handbook. Once again it was no surprise to see the Merthyr football public rise to the challenge.

Thanks once again and don't forget that the mobile museum is available for all clubs, schools and organisations.

Up the Town!

Fantastic event, a real treat for people interested in the club's history. An interesting presentation frm Phil Sweet on Merthyr Town managers from 1908.
