Checked out the ground at Govilon today SUPERB pitch I doubt if we will play on a better surface in the league this season. Plenty of space around the ground but no hard standing for fan's,plenty of good car parking. Local game for me can't wait.

Andrwe Thomas - who scored the 5th (!) "turned like a wheelie bin" according to the Club Sec (on Twitter).

Govilon match
The Martyrs made the short trip to Gwent league side Govilon FC as their pre season preparations continue. Before proceedings began a warm minute’s applause was impeccably preserved by all spectators in memory of Govilon FC stalwart Terry Jones who sadly passed away earlier on in the year, the occasion and setting was a fitting tribute to a man who was held in high esteem in the local community.
The game started with the Martyrs setting the pace on a fantastic playing surface, and the Martyrs took the lead when Luke Jones burst into the box and fired passed the advancing keeper from 12 yards. The Martyrs doubled their advantage on 15minutes when a Luke Jones corner was powerfully headed home at the near post by Ryan Prosser. The Town’s fast flowing football was too much for the hosts to handle and Matthew Harris made it 3-0 with a powerful drive from just inside the box.
The second half began with the obligatory pre season multiple changes, however the Martyrs continued to dominate and on 54 minutes Ian Traylor made it 4-0 with a neat finish from close range. Moments later Andrew Thomas made it 5-0 with a fantastic turn and shot in the area, and shortly after Ryan Prosser scored his second and Merthyr’s 6th when he tapped home from close range after Ian Traylor’s low drive was saved amid strong appeals for offside. The Martyrs were far from finished and in the closing stages Gary Colborne opened his Martyrs goal scoring account with a bullet header from a corner, and with 10minutes to go Jason Welsh rolled back the years with an excellent finish on the run after a dangerous cross from trailist Jamie Wern.
